The National Broadband Network – proposed by the Labor Commonwealth Government – and under construction in pilot locations in every state, is planned for the Sunshine Coast sometime during its 8 year build timeframe.
Council is working with the state, Commonwealth and National Broadband Co to prioritise the Sunshine Coast build.
The initial plan for the Sunshine Coast build includes optic fibre to each premises - homes comercial and industrial, health and education. For the rural areas of the Sunshine coast, there will be a mixture of wireless and Satelite options.
New 24 August 2010: The current hung parliament as a result of the 21 August elections has put the whole NBN plan in limbo. It may be a number of weeks or months before the future of the NBN is confirmed.
